New Changes To School Arrival Procedures

Arriving at School

Starting this year, Fort Meadow will no longer offer a Drop-Off Zone to parents at arrival time.  Although it seemed like a good idea, there was an increase in safety concerns due to unsafe drivers. Traffic problems and close calls created a stressful environment for families and school personnel alike.  Arrival time should be a positive time for all.  To help alleviate parking issues, we will continue to allow parents to drop off their children in a staggered manner by opening our doors 10 minutes prior to the start of the school day. Parents should walk their child to the school’s main entrance between the times of 8:50 to 9:00 am (morning session) and 12:20 to 12:30 (afternoon session). IMPORTANT CHANGE - with this new drop-off procedure, younger siblings of students MUST accompany their parent and cannot remain in their vehicle unless another adult stays with them.

Once “handed off” at the main entrance, students will be walked to their classroom by a familiar paraprofessional.  To help us easily identify the rooms that children belong in, we ask that families attach a room tag (provided by the school) to their child’s backpack.  The principal and school counselor will be available to help with children who may have a difficult time separating from their families.
